Restricted & Prohibited Items
To maintain a safe and legal marketplace, certain items are prohibited or restricted on FairClose. Violating these policies may result in listing removal, account suspension, or legal action.
Important Notice
Listing prohibited items may result in immediate account termination without warning. In cases involving illegal items, we are required to report to law enforcement agencies. When in doubt, please contact our support team before listing.
Prohibited Items (Never Allowed)
These items are strictly prohibited and must never be listed on FairClose under any circumstances.
All illegal drugs, controlled substances, and items primarily used for drug consumption
Examples:
- Illegal drugs of any kind
- Prescription medications without proper licensing
- Drug paraphernalia (pipes, bongs, etc.)
- Substances marketed as "legal highs"
Immediate account termination and report to authorities
Firearms, ammunition, explosives, and items designed primarily as weapons
Examples:
- Firearms and firearm parts
- Ammunition and magazines
- Explosives and fireworks
- Switchblades, brass knuckles, and illegal knives
Immediate account termination and report to authorities
Human remains, body parts, or bodily fluids of any kind
Examples:
- Human organs or tissue
- Human blood, plasma, or other fluids
- Human bones or remains
- Items made from human remains
Immediate account termination
Any materials depicting minors in inappropriate situations
Examples:
- Child exploitation imagery
- Content sexualizing minors
- Items promoting child exploitation
Immediate account termination and report to authorities (NCMEC)
Items known or suspected to be stolen or obtained illegally
Examples:
- Items reported as stolen
- Property without proof of ownership
- Items with removed serial numbers
- Goods from illegal sources
Account termination and cooperation with law enforcement
Fake, counterfeit, or unauthorized replica items
Examples:
- Counterfeit luxury goods
- Fake designer items
- Bootleg merchandise
- Unauthorized reproductions
Listing removal, account suspension, potential legal action
Fake IDs, documents, or items used for fraud
Examples:
- Fake IDs or passports
- Counterfeit currency
- Fake diplomas or certificates
- Credit card skimmers or hacking tools
Immediate account termination and report to authorities
Dangerous chemicals, radioactive materials, and biohazards
Examples:
- Toxic chemicals
- Radioactive materials
- Biohazardous materials
- Asbestos-containing items
Listing removal and potential account suspension
Restricted Items (Conditional)
These items have restrictions and may require special approval, licensing, or documentation to list.
Tobacco products and e-cigarettes require special approval
Examples:
- Cigarettes and cigars
- E-cigarettes and vape products
- Tobacco accessories
- Nicotine products
Generally not allowed. Vintage tobacco collectibles (sealed, pre-1970) may be permitted with approval.
Cannabis and CBD products regardless of local legality
Examples:
- Marijuana products
- CBD oils and edibles
- Hemp products containing THC
- Cannabis accessories
Not allowed due to federal regulations and interstate commerce laws.
Alcoholic beverages require seller licensing verification
Examples:
- Wine, beer, spirits
- Collectible alcohol
- Home brewing supplies with alcohol
Requires verified alcohol seller license. Collectible sealed bottles may be allowed with approval.
Live animals and products from protected species
Examples:
- Live animals of any kind
- Ivory and ivory products
- Products from endangered species
- Exotic animal parts
Live animals not permitted. Vintage items predating CITES (with documentation) may be allowed.
Live plants and seeds with agricultural restrictions
Examples:
- Live plants requiring permits
- Invasive species
- Seeds with import restrictions
- Endangered plant species
Must comply with USDA and state agricultural regulations. Documentation may be required.
Medical devices and equipment requiring FDA compliance
Examples:
- Prescription medical devices
- Diagnostic equipment
- Life-sustaining equipment
- Surgical instruments
Over-the-counter devices allowed. Prescription devices require seller verification.
Gift cards and prepaid cards with potential for fraud
Examples:
- Retailer gift cards
- Prepaid credit cards
- Digital currency cards
- Promotional codes
Limited to physical cards with visible balance. Seller must guarantee balance.
Products recalled by manufacturers or government agencies
Examples:
- CPSC recalled items
- FDA recalled products
- NHTSA recalled automotive parts
- Items with known safety defects
All recalled items are prohibited. Sellers must check recall databases before listing.
Report a Violation
If you see a listing that violates our policies, please report it immediately. Our Trust & Safety team reviews all reports within 24 hours and takes appropriate action.
